- New Software Update
I just re-installed Mac OS X 10.6 on my MacBook Pro (2008 ed) using the original DVD. I then selected update software to bring it up to 10.6.8. The software downloaded and then I received the message to restart in order to install the software. I restarted and have the installation screen showing.
MacBook :: Stuck In Restart Loop After Software UpdatesOct 5, 2009
So yesterday I updated a bunch of programs on my macbook via the auto update function. Some of the programs I updated required a restart, which I performed when it prompted me to. Now my macbook won't restart all the way. It turns on and gives the chime then goes to a gray screen with an apple on it. After about a minute a spiral loading image appears underneath the apple and about a minute after that the computer shuts off and immediately restarts again only to do the same thing (its stuck in some sort of cycle). I've tried resetting the PRAM and a few other things but nothing seems to work.
MacBook Pro :: Stuck In Loop At Login After 10.6.4 UpdateJun 17, 2010
This is my first mac, I installed the 10.6.4 update the other day and restarted, since then it has been on or sleeping. I just shut it down and turned it on again and it's asking for my password. Each time I enter it goes to load and then comes back to the log in screen. I know I have the write password because it's a simple 4 digit one that I use for my bank account and if I enter anything else the box shakes and asks me to re-enter it. How do I log in?
OS X :: MacBook Stuck In Infinite Reboot Loop After 10.5.8 Update?
Mac Os X 10.6.4 Software Update Does Not Restart UpdateAug 13, 2009
I got a 1 TB Western Digital external last night and had left it on all night so that Time Machine could back me up a few times. Then this morning, I had disconnected the drive and decided that I ought to update to 10.5.8 because Software update had told me to the day before. So I did, and I walked out of the room after it started installing the update. Then I walked back in when I first heard the startup chime and the fans were running at 6000 rpm and the screen showed the Apple and the daisy wheel. It proceeded to turn itself off, and repeat the process, always getting stuck at the Apple logo screen. So I tried booting it up in safe mode, but nothing changed; it never got past the apple screen. Then I booted from the install disc and used disk utility to verify the disk and repair the disk permissions. I tried starting it up a couple of times after that and nothing had changed. So I booted from the install disc again and was going to reinstall Leopard, but I decided to restore from one of the pre-10.5.8 Time Machine Backups.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: MBP Stuck On Login Screen / Password Loop After Latest UpdateApr 3, 2012
I just literally updated my macbook pro to the latest version of Lion, today 4/3/12 and now it's just stuck on the main log in page for lion. As in, I type in my password, it thinks for two seconds, goes black, and has the log in page again. It just loops. No end in site. I've rebooted in safe mode, run disk utitily, and repaired the disk.. but no dice, still. It repairs the disk, fine right? When I reboot in regular mode, it just goes back to the password/login screen loop.

IMac :: Stuck After Software Update / RestartJun 7, 2009
I recently installed the iTunes update plus 3 others that were in the list (don't remember what they were). After they installed, it said that a restart was necessary. I let it restart and when it came back the 'beach ball' was spinning. The hockey game was about to start so I went off to watch the first period. When I returned the beach ball was still spinning. Thinking that there was no way it could take that long, I went ahead and shut down the iMac. I waited about 30 seconds and then turned it back on. It started normally and did not seem to have any problems.
Is there something else I should have done? How long should it take the iMac to restart after a software update?
OS X :: Upgrading From 10.2.8 To 10.3 - Stuck In LoopApr 19, 2009
I was trying to upgrade my girlfriend imac g3 500mhz from os 10.2.8 to 10.3 . The installer soon told me that I needed a firmware upgrade and quit, and restarted the computer. I then got stuck in a bit of a loop and had to use a paperclip to get the disk out. Now when the imac is started, for a couple of seconds a small icon of the os face (?) appears and flashes to a small icon of a folder with a question mark on it (that scared me) but then is seems to start up and run as normal! I've turned the computer on a couple of times now and it does exactly the same thing every time. This flashing image is worrying me, I've given up on the idea of installing os10.3 but have I damaged this IMac?
PowerPC :: G3 Stuck In Rebooting Loop
Software Update For MacOct 22, 2009
My G3 keeps repeatedly rebooting. It goes through the loading process, but when it comes time to give you the desktop, it shuts down and restarts all over againl. As it boots up, a double image that you can't read comes up on the monitor, along with a solid color bar that separates the desktop image in two. I have two internal harddrives and changed it to reboot from the second harddrive, thinking that might be the problem. Immediately after doing this, it rebooted fine one time, but now is caught in the reboot loop again. When I startup from the install disk, the image is fine on the screen, as is the startup itself and when I run disk doctor, it says both drives are fine. I homeschool and would like to keep using all of the classic educational software on it for my 5 year old. It's running 9.2.2, 256mb memory 9gig drive is current booting drive, other one is 2gig.
OS X :: Macbook Pro Won't Boot - Stuck In LoopMay 19, 2010
This morning I went to use my laptop, Screensaver passsword box came up and it wouldn't recognise my password at all, So i rebooted. Now my macbook doesn't get any further then the apple logo with the progress wheel then after a while it reboots. So far i've tried the following:
2.)Ran Disk Util from install disk and repaired disk permissions
3.) Booted into Safe mode
None of the above have made any difference at all? I thought about 'repairing' the install of os x but the version on my disc is older than the version on the laptop so it won't let me?
IMac PPC :: G5 Stuck On A Reboot LoopJun 4, 2012
I received an iMac G5 from this old couple, they were going to throw it out, but all it needed was a power supply which I bought and replaced. It's been about 9 months and everything worked great, no problems whatsoever.Â
Three days ago, I shutdown the computer and when I booted the next day, it would only reach the Apple logo and the spining wheel, the fans would blast loud and then it would shut down and restart again, repeating the same thing over and over. I cannot start it under Safe Mode nor it recognizes the CD when booting.Â
MacBook Air :: Stuck In Login Loop?Jun 26, 2014
'When I login, my laptop flashes my desktop background and immediately takes me back to the login screen' Worked late into the night doing things with my laptop it worked fineThis morning when I got into the office I plugged my laptop into my second screen and noticed I only had a desktop on the 2nd screen the laptops screen was stuck on dashboard. (I could create new desktops, etc. on my 2nd screen just fine)I unplugged my secondary monitor and saw my desktop come up on my primary screen.Suddenly another flash and I was logged outNow when I enter the correct password it looks like it is starting to log in, my grey lock screen becomes my factory blue desktopthen it flashes back to the login screenIf I enter the wrong password the input box does the typical left right shake.Â
5,6,7 are repeatable, sadly 1 et al are not.Â

MacBook :: Restart Loop After Restoring From Time MachineDec 15, 2009
Last week my macbook crashed and it turns out its a hard disk failure, so I fixed it and restored it using time machine, after restoring it I restarted it then when the apple logo appears, a box saying to restart the computer by pressing the power button in a couple of messages! I restart then the same thing!!!! what to do! I have exams and projects I need my mac! Just a note: the mac was working properly after fixing the hard disk before restoring!
OS X :: Time Machine Stuck In Loop Running SL?Aug 29, 2009
I installed SL a few days ago and had to rebuild my Time Machine backup. It powered through all 700GB today and then it kept going. The progress bar got to the max: 700/700, then went to 700.02/700.02 , 700.03/700.03 , 700.04/ 700.04 , etc. Currently it's adding onto the 'inprogress' file and filling up the drive with more data than I had to backup! It's done 844GB out of 700. Keep in mind, this is a totally-from scratch backup here! Do I stop it? Do I wait until it fills up the drive and 'figures it out' ?
Software :: IBook G4 Os X 10.4 - Stuck In Reinstall LoopDec 12, 2009
My iBook G4, running Tiger, is stuck in a loop. While trying to reinstall os x 10.4 I was instrucked to insert disc 2. So I did. Resulting message: 'There were errors installing the software. Please try installing again.' with 'close' the only option. So I close. It spits out disc 2 and message pops up: 'please insert dics 2 to continue installation.' The only way out is to crash but there's not really any way out because, when I re-boot I get the 'there were errors installing' message and around and around we go. I tried to boot to my hard drive from the install disc but it won't go there. I did the hardware test and it says all is well.
Intel Mac :: Stuck In Reboot Loop (even After A Reinstall Of OS From DVD)Jun 10, 2012
I have a 6 month old iMac (bought Dec 2011). It has 10.6.8 with all patches. It began to randomly shut down and got stuck in the reboot loop (sometimes, the problem was a reawakening after sleep, but even a simple shutdown/restart wouldnt guarantee correct behavior).Â
I did the Apple Hardware Test (it reported - no troubles found), reset the SMC, PRAM - all to no avail.Â
Finally, i reinstalled the OS from the DVD that came along with the iMac. Left it for a few hours to download the 'jumbo' patch from apple site, and now it is back to behaving the same way - it is stuck in a reboot loop! I dont know if it installed the patch or not, as soon as i touched any key to wake up the iMac, it rebooted (like before). And now I gotta try the boot process like 15 times and it may boot correctly. Safe Mode boot is also not guaranteed to work. It shows the sliding bar and then back to reboot!Â
If it were a software issue, the reinstall of the OS should have fixed that? If it were a hardware issue, the AHT should have caught that? Am I stuck with a lemon? Just one of those bad pieces that are inevitable in any assembly line production?Â

OS X :: IMac Screen Black. It Got Stuck In A Loop And Froze.Jul 30, 2010
I was playing Diablo II and my screen froze, and the same half second blip of sound kept playing over and over. I couldn't even force quit, so I held down the power button until it turned off.
Now, it won't turn on. When I press the power button, there is no chime. Oddly there are an inordinate number of fan wooshes. Like, I hear a woosh from the right, which is normal, but then I hear a woosh from the left, then another in the middle! I am being bombarded with wooshes!I've tried holding alt, or holding shift, or holding alt+s while starting up. No dice, although I do get fewer fan blasts, which is normal.
OS X V10.7 Lion :: Address Book Stuck In ICloud LoopJun 20, 2012
My address book has suddenly gone haywire. It contains nothing 'on this mac' and seems to be stuck in a loop of downloading from iCloud - it gets a few contacts, then more, then yet more, then all, then back to just some and goes through the cycle all over again. Looking at the plist files in the library com.apple.addressbook.plist keeps vanishing and reappearing. I've tried quitting address Book, deleting the plist files (all of them) then reopening, but problem persists. I've tried turning off the iCloud sync for Address Book, whereupon it asks me if I want to keep a local copy: I say yes, but nothing is copied. Turn it on again, it syncs and starts looping all over again.Â

Software :: Login Loop After Shutting Down Computer During Update InstallMay 31, 2008
I recently installed Leopard. On my way to bed I saw that there was an update to be installed. I clicked install, but the install took to long (and was being executed in a special screen after the shut down of the computer, so there were no annulation options) and I was so annoyed with the length of the installation that I shut my computer down. A big no, so it seems, because the next morning when I booted my computer, the login screen appeared. I set up-auto login, so seeing a login window was strange. When I entered my correct password, I first saw a blue screen and then returned to the log-in screen. There appears to be no way for me to log-in.
Things I've tried: safe boot, booting with the install DVD (I checked the harddrive for any problems, there were none) and booting while pressing an interesting variety of keys. With the same result: none. I tried doing the root-user thing, but to no avail. I think I don't have root user selected in finder. The updated I tried to install was the last one seeded by apple, I think it was the 10.5.3 update; there were three files to be installed. My computer is and intel iMac from the first quarter of 2007.
OS X Mavericks :: Mac Stuck On Restart After 10.9.4Jul 1, 2014
I updated my 15' MBP (MD 104) to the latest version of OS X and while restarting, it got stuck and has not recovered for quite a while. It shows my wallpaper and even if I close the lid, the screen refuses to turn off. I cannot access anything as it is stuck in the phasing out stage so I see my wallpaper as a blur.when the battery finally runs out, it will have to shut down which I cannot do right now despite holding down the power button for quite a while.
MacBook :: Stuck On (Need To Restart Computer)Jul 22, 2010
I recently got a MacBook from my school. Last night it was freezing quite a bit so I shut it down. This morning when I boot it up I get a screen saying 'you need to restart you computer. Hold down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again'. Each time I do this though I get the same screen. I think the start up disk for the computer is at my school. is there anyway I can get it working just for today? I have also tried holding down F8 as I start it.
OS X :: Mac Freezes And Stuck On White Screen On RestartJan 2, 2010
I got my IMac 3 years ago just recently started running slower in the past couple months, nothing too bad though. However just yesterday it became unbearable to use. 10 min to start up, once it was on took forever to open up any files etc. So I did some research online and I decided my best option was to reinstall the OS with my startup disk. I did that and erased all my harddrive (nothing important on it.) After doing that it ran great like brand new. Today I turn it on, it continues to work great for a few hours then it freezes in me. I held down the power button to restart. Turned back on and it was stuck on the white apple startup screen. After 15 min I decided to power it off and let it rest a while. After resting it still won't start up.

OS X :: Shutdown / Restart System - Stuck On Showing DesktopMar 8, 2008
I'm a rather new Mac user (it's been about 6 months since I bought my new aluminum iMac). Lately, I've been experiencing difficulties in shutting down my system, or even restarting it. I should probably note that I'm using 10.5.2 Sometimes, when I try to perform a system shutdown/restart, the OS gets to a point where only my desktop is shown but nothing happens (occasionally the beach ball keeps rolling, but not always).
At that point, (as far as I know) there's nothing I can do to restart/shutdown the system, besides pressing the 'power' button for several seconds until the power goes down. When similar things happened on my old XP machine, I would just use CTRL ALT DEL and force quit all applications - until shutdown succeeds. There was never a scenario where I needed to cut the power in order to get the system to shut down. On OS X when this situation occurs, the CMD ALT ESC combo doesn't seem to work.

OS X Mavericks :: IMac Stuck On Recovery Page Cannot RestartSep 8, 2014
I've got a problematic iMac running mavericks. I tried to do a disk repair in Recovery Mode which didn't work (said it needed a disk repair but could not repair and that I should backup everything). So then I tried to quit out of recovery and restart by choosing the Mac OS HD..it won't restart..it just keeps giving me the Recovery options front page. What should I do?

MacBook Air :: Stuck On Black Screen With Movable Cursor But No Able To Shut Down Or RestartDec 2, 2014
I accidentally connected my wife's MacBook Air to my docking station at work today. Nothing seemed to happen so I undocked it and the computer displayed a black screen and I could see and move the cursor using the trackpad. I then tried shutting down by holding the power button for 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 1 min, etc. Nothing worked and it's stuck on the black screen so I can't use Yosemite's menu to shut down or restart. When I leave the computer idle for around a minute, the cursor disappears but it will reappear after pressing keys on the keyboard.
