  1. Mail Keeps Going Offline Mac

Jan 18, 2014  Hi Mail has suddenly started showing all my accounts as offline, they all have the exclamation mark next to them. When I click on it I get the message that Mail can't connect to the server on port xxx. I select 'take all accounts online' and they remain offline. I have restarted my Mac. Issue – Apple Mail Moving Messages Stuck “I am facing issues with Apple Mail Moving Messages Stuck regularly. Recently, while working in Apple Mail, the indicator, which is there at the bottom sidebar, says “moving-messages” always. It never goes away, not even when mail re-starts. It seems Apple mail stuck on moving messages. Click it to learn more. If the status is Network Offline, make sure that your Mac is connected to the Internet, then try again. May 01, 2017  Have Sierra 10.12.14 on a late-2016 MBP with Touch Bar (which also stopped functioning). All of a sudden my gmail accounts are offline. I keep getting messages for my password, then nothing happens. Took a screenshot of my mail settings, and they look okay, but when I go into Mail, there is no smtp or port showing.

Hi RonB6123,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. It looks like you're unable to send or receive email from your Mac.com address.
To start, there are a few steps here that may help with an offline iCloud/Mac.com address, found in the resource titled Get help using iCloud Mail:

If you can't receive mail in the Mail app on macOS

Mail Keeps Going Offline Mac

Find the name of your iCloud email account on the left side of the main Mail window. If your account name is dimmed and has a lightning-bolt symbol next to it, your account is offline. To take your account online, connect to the Internet, then choose Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online.

If you receive an alert when you send a message from your @icloud.com email address using Mail on your Mac

“This message could not be delivered and will remain in your Outbox until it can be delivered. The reason for the failure is: An error occurred while delivering this message via the smtp server: server name.”

  1. Open Mail and choose Mail > Preferences.
  2. Click the Accounts tab.
  3. Select your iCloud email account.
  4. Click the Account Information tab.
  5. Choose your iCloud email account from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) menu. If you choose Edit SMTP Server List, you won't see your iCloud SMTP server as an option.
If neither of these steps resolves the issue, these are your next best steps, from the article Mac Mail App Says Account OfflineIf you can’t send or receive email on your Mac:

If Mail says that your account appears to be offline

Mail might say that your account appears to be offline due to a network problem.

  1. Make sure that you installed the latest Mac software updates, especially if the issue occured immediately after installing a previous update.
  2. In OS X El Capitan or later, you might see a status icon and brief error message in the upper-right corner of the Mail window, beneath the Search field. The message might say “Network Offline” or “Login Failed,” for example. Click the message to see more details about the issue.
  3. Check your connection in Mail Connection Doctor. It might be able to tell you more about the issue.

Checking Mail Connection Doctor as described above is a great idea to get more information about what could be causing this for your account.
Also, for clarification, you mentioned you made the account inactive. What steps did you use for this? If the steps above don't resolve the issue, try clicking the Apple menu () > System Preferences > iCloud. Then, uncheck the box next to Mail, wait a few minutes, and re-check it.
I hope this helps you.
Take care!
