On Windows:
Follow these instructions to download a ZIP file and extract it to your SD card to update to the latest version of Toolbox 4 software.
Note: If you are running Toolbox or any of the other software on the SD card, then you MUST close the application(s) before proceeding with the download.
- Insert the Flip-Pal SD card (or a blank SD card) into your computer.
If your computer does not have an SD card slot, use the supplied white SD card to USB adapter, plugging it into a USB slot on your computer. - When you insert it, Windows will assign a drive letter to the card. Remember the letter to use a few steps later.
- It is recommended that you do a quick format of the SD card. Remember to copy any scans you have stored in the DCIM/100_SCAN folder to your hard drive or other storage device first.

Click here to download and save the ZIP file to your computer’s hard drive, which will probably be the Downloads or Documents folders. It is named Flip-Pal-Toolbox-4-1.zip and is about 72MB.
- When downloading is complete, select the file and click Extract all.
- Select the Destination by clicking Browse… and find the actual drive letter of your SD card from the list under My Computer as mentioned above.
- Click Extract. The software is ready for use when extraction is complete and the dialog closes itself.
If you are asked to overwrite existing files reply yes to all. This may leave you with two Toolbox files. To run Toolbox 4, click on the file Win Flip-Pal Toolbox 4.exe. Delete the old version.

My Mac gives a message saying the Toolbox software is not optimized.
You may click Continue. The app will operate correctly and compatibly with other apps.
Why is the Toolbox software’s window so small on my new Windows 10 computer?
The scaling problem with high resolution displays on Windows 10 computers can be fixed by following these steps:
- right-click on the file Win Flip-Pal Toolbox 4.exe and select Properties in the drop-down
- select the Compatibility tab
- click “Change high DPI settings”
- select (put checkmark in front of) “Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:”
- click the down-arrow in the box below that and select “System”
- click “OK” to close that window
- click “Apply”
- click another “OK” to close the Properties window
Now when you run (double-click) the Win Flip-Pal Toolbox 4.exe file, it will open full height and the thumbnails will be more discernible.

Why is the Flip-Pal mobile scanner’s software not on a separate CD?
Unlike most other scanners, the Flip-Pal mobile scanner does not require a connection to a computer to scan. It will save the scans to the SD card.
The Flip-Pal Toolbox software is located on the SD card rather than a separate CD. Included in the Toolbox is the Flip-Pal EasyStitch, Record (StoryScans), color adjustment, cropping, and rotation software. This software does not have to be installed on the computer – it is available to you wherever you take your scanner.
We currently offer two DVDs that can be purchased bundled with the scanner. We are pleased to offer these to you priced significantly less than if you were to purchase the included software separately.

How do I keep my Toolbox software up to date?
The Toolbox software will check to see if your version is up-to-date automatically. Instructions on how to update your Toolbox on the SD card is under the Support tab.
Why does my scanner scan the whole bed? My desktop scanner scans just the area of the picture.
We have found that automatic cropping by the scanner can cause loss of portions of the picture. Therefore, the Flip-Pal always scans the entire 4×6″ bed and you then use a cropping tool to select just that portion that contains the picture.

It is recommended that you do a quick format of the SD card before unzipping the Toolbox software to the SD card. That will give a clean slate for the new installation. Remember to copy any scans you have stored in the DCIM/100_SCAN folder to your hard drive or other storage device first.
When starting the Toolbox software after installing the update, I get an error message that my computer does not have MSVCR100.dll
Your computer’s Windows installation is missing the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package 2012. Here is a link to fixing that problem with the missing MSVCR100.dll

Select the file VSU_4vcredist_x64.exe
Click Next, wait for a while, then click Save to save it to your downloads folder. After downloading, run that app by double-clicking it. Follow the installation instructions. You will probably have to restart the computer for it to take effect.

note: downloading/installing the new version of the Flip-Pal Toolbox software will not have any effect on this problem.
